Phlebotomist - Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Summary:
The Phlebotomist collects blood specimens from patients of all ages, assists patients with non-blood collections, and ensures specimen integrity through accurate patient identification, specimen labeling, and collection steps.
This position performs occasional point-of-care patient testing, such as glucose, and provides exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs patient identification and specimen labeling according to standard operating procedures.
- Understands phlebotomy processes and techniques to obtain quality blood specimens.
- Processes laboratory and patient reports according to standard operating procedure.
- Recognizes problems, takes appropriate action, documents problems, and notifies the Supervisor in a timely manner.
- Actively communicates throughout the shift and manages priority requests in a courteous and timely manner.
- Follows up with STAT, ASAP, and Pre-op draws to ensure turnaround times are met.
Requirements:
- 2 years of experience in a related field.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of start date.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
Working Conditions:
This position requires working in a clinical laboratory setting, with occasional exposure to blood and other bodily fluids.
