Position Overview

The Coder III role requires expertise in coding high-acuity inpatient accounts and/or complex outpatient accounts, including but not limited to Observation, Radiation Oncology, Chemotherapy Infusion, Cardiac Cath/Electrophysiology, or Interventional Radiology and Surgery, to support Revenue Cycle objectives for timely billing.

Utilizes the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-CM and PCS), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), including Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), and other coding references to ensure precise coding.

Reviews the complete medical record to accurately identify principal and secondary diagnoses, procedures, and complications.

Ensures accurate sequencing of diagnoses and procedures, maintaining a 95% accuracy rate.

Aims to achieve optimal DRG assignments for each coded record with the aid of the computer system.

Demonstrates consistent performance and strives to maintain productivity levels in alignment with departmental goals.

Holds accounts appropriately when additional information is needed for accurate code/DRG assignment and collaborates with relevant staff as necessary.

Regularly engages with coding literature, stays updated on new or revised coding guidelines, and shares insights with colleagues, as determined by peer feedback and supervisory observations.

Completes all tasks as directed by management in a diligent and dependable manner.

Shows interest in and pursues continuing education opportunities both within and outside the healthcare facility.

Collaborates as a team member to achieve departmental objectives.

Performs all related duties or special projects as assigned or required.

Experience Required

3-5 years of relevant experience.

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in coding inpatient accounts, ICD-10, PCS coding, and/or complex outpatient coding for Observation, Radiation Oncology, Chemotherapy Infusion, Surgery, Cardiology Cath, EP, and/or Interventional Radiology.

Education Requirements

High School Diploma is required.

Associate's degree is preferred.

License/Certification Requirements

One or more of the following credentials: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CIC, COC, CPC, CCA, CCC, CIRCC, CCVTC, or any of the Core Credentials or specialty credentials from AAPC or AHIMA.
