Senior Financial Operations Analyst

This role encompasses professional supervisory responsibilities in directing, analyzing, and interpreting key accounting and auditing functions.
The work involves planning and overseeing various components of the organization’s accounting and financial reporting activities, along with auditing responsibilities.
The individual in this position will be tasked with developing and executing processes or strategies to fulfill special assignments and projects aimed at achieving the objectives established by senior management.
This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the organization’s departments and financial framework. Performance is guided and assessed through the establishment of specific goals and the evaluation of progress towards achieving those goals.
Work Schedule:
Standard work hours are Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct audits and investigations to ensure the integrity of accounting records and systems maintained by staff, providing reports and recommendations.
- Reconcile records with controls upheld by the finance department.
- Monitor compliance with operational policies, procedures, and accounting standards.
- Analyze reports and records to identify trends or discrepancies, initiating reports to relevant officials along with proposed corrective actions.
- Supervise and/or assist in preparing revenue and expenditure estimates for the annual budget.
- Facilitate internal and external audits within the area of responsibility.
- Provide instruction, assistance, and advice to colleagues in technical accounting, financial reporting, and bookkeeping problem resolution.
- Ensure adherence to accounting principles and procedures as outlined by relevant governing bodies.
- Prepare and/or review complex financial reporting documents, including those submitted to external departments.
- Design, prepare, and review financial summaries for assigned funds/areas for quarterly and annual financial reports.
- The completion of assignments may necessitate the operation of a vehicle.
- Additional related duties may be assigned as necessary.
Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices, with the ability to apply and adapt standard methods to diverse and complex accounting and auditing tasks.
- Proficient in using computer systems for spreadsheet development, including complex mathematical and statistical operations.
- Familiarity with macro systems in electronic spreadsheet development.
- Understanding of governmental and utility accounting theories and procedures.
- Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
- Ability to create and implement accounting and auditing systems and procedures.
- Strong capability to foster effective working relationships with colleagues, other employees, representatives of external agencies, and the public.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- May require the ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
- The individual must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.
Required Experience and Training:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting (specific accounting courses are required if it is a business administration degree with an emphasis in accounting) and/or an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license with a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college majoring in accounting, business administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of four years of experience in accounting or auditing, with at least three years focused specifically on financial systems.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.
Preferred Experience and Training:
- Supervisory experience over staff or projects is highly desirable.
- Courses or experience in governmental accounting are strongly preferred.
