About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Oncology Pharmacist to join our team at Value Apothecaries Inc. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medications in our oncology setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and prepare oncology medications for dispensing, verifying prescriptions according to professional standards, facility procedures, and state and federal legal requirements.
  • Ensure excellent customer service and clinical care, consulting with patients and providers regarding individual medications or supplies prescribed.
  • Oversee compounded preparations within the oncology pharmacy, collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure quality and compliance with regulatory and best practices.
  • Review and evaluate patient plans of care for therapeutic appropriateness, participating in regulatory body surveys and fielding questions related to compounding and pharmacy operations.
  • Assist in fiscal management of the oncology pharmacy, optimizing profits and controlling expenses while consulting with relevant managers and directors.
  • Manage oncology pharmacy technicians, including hiring, training, terminating, and performance management, monitoring overall performance to ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational policies.
  • Develop and maintain established procedures concerning compounding, order sets, operational workflows, quality improvement, quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and record keeping.
  • Oversee medication procurement, inventory controls, shortage management, and formulary processes within the outpatient oncology setting, collaborating with Pharmacy Leadership to ensure regulatory compliance with the 340b program.
  • Make recommendations to managers regarding changes to improve operating procedures or facilitate patient care, performing prescription verification and providing technical guidance to pharmacy technicians.
  • Promptly respond to patient inquiries, requests, and issues, following through on closing any outstanding patient concerns to provide superior customer care.
  • Provide consultation on pharmacy and therapeutic matters to various levels of organizational personnel, completing staff schedules for pharmacy technicians and adjusting as necessary to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and in-service training for outpatient oncology services, working collaboratively with organizational personnel on quality, satisfaction, service excellence, clinical care, and other matters as needed.
Requirements
  • Normally requires a Bachelor's of Science Degree or Pharm D degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy or a Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy, with a current, unrestricted pharmacist license through the appropriate state board of pharmacy.
  • Broad training and/or experience in business administration, sales, marketing, information technology, and retail/ambulatory pharmacy is also required.
  • Normally requires zero (1) to three (3) years of directly related and progressively responsible retail/ambulatory care pharmacy experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, work quickly and accurately under time and volume constraints, and possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to resolve patient issues quickly and creatively to improve customer satisfaction, familiarity with pharmaceutical products, services, and drug interactions, and strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Good analytical skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are also required.
