Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Intake to join our team at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. As a key member of our Patient Access Department, you will be responsible for providing direction, development, and guidance to staff, ensuring seamless patient intake and verification processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direction, development, and guidance to staff to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Review and edit daily updates, reports, and system concerns to maintain a proactive approach to addressing and implementing changes.
  • Lead, train, and motivate staff to achieve high productivity standards and maintain departmental efficiency.
  • Assist the Manager with daily operations, department schedule, and staff coverage for all shifts.
  • Identify and obtain essential information for intake, verification, and pre-certification of patient accounts with a 98% accuracy rate.
  • Revisit and revise information in the computer system as needed, documenting pertinent information and efforts according to department documentation standards.
  • Verify and determine insurance coverage and benefits for phases of transplant, inputting necessary information into the database.
  • Coordinate with Case Management and/or physician's office regarding additional information needed for pre-authorization.
  • Reverify emergency room, observation, surgical observation, and day surgery patients when converted to inpatient status and initiate verification and pre-certification.
  • Work collaboratively with peers and other hospital departments, attending meetings and actively participating.
  • Assist managers in a timely and accurate manner, distributing and completing relevant departmental reports, and tracking key performance indicators.
  • Maintain current policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, and assist the Director with JCAHO preparation.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience, or two years of college and three to five (3-5) years of collection or financial counselor, verification, or patient access/scheduling experience.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a strong commitment to customer service and patient satisfaction.
