Position Summary:

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our facility. This position encompasses repair tasks, preventive maintenance, and involvement in special projects. The technician is also responsible for the upkeep of all heavy machinery within the facility, including balers, sorting lines, loaders, and forklifts. Regular maintenance schedules and minor repairs are integral to this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures when working on machinery;
  • Conduct routine inspections of all facility equipment, including buildings, sorting lines, balers, and rolling stock, ensuring daily documentation;
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment, with the ability to execute repairs;
  • Engage in MIG welding and fabrication tasks as required;
  • Participate in daily plant meetings, discussing issues and observations with management;
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations during work activities;
  • Maintain detailed records of service cycles and maintenance activities;
  • Efficiently manage time and complete tasks assigned by supervisory personnel;
  • Procure quotes and order spare parts, completing necessary documentation;
  • Oversee that operators perform pre-run inspections and maintenance, ensuring proper documentation;
  • Report any damage and immediate repair needs to the Maintenance Manager;
  • Utilize and maintain all repair and testing tools and equipment;
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on all vehicles, equipment, and machinery;
  • Arrive on time with all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and tools;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Fundamental understanding and experience with Mechanical Systems (gears, pulleys, chains, belts, shafts, industrial gearboxes, water pumps, air compressors, HVAC systems);
  • Basic knowledge of Electrical Systems (AC and DC circuits, transformers, control power, relays);
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and seek assistance when needed;
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing equipment as necessary;
  • Competent in MIG welding and light to medium fabrication;
  • Effective time management skills to meet deadlines while working independently;
  • Basic computer skills for tasks such as email communication and reporting;
  • Adherence to company policies and safety standards;
  • Reliable transportation to and from the workplace;
  • Consistent attendance record.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent;
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field preferred;
  • ASE Certification is a plus.

Work Status: Full-Time (40 hours per week). Hourly. Non-Exempt.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must pass a drug/alcohol screening and physical ability test;
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and tolerate typical plant noises and odors;
  • Physical activities include climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, carrying, and stooping;
  • Must be able to lift up to 45+ pounds when necessary.
