Position Summary:

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our facility. This position involves performing repairs, conducting preventative maintenance, and managing special projects. The technician will also oversee the maintenance of all heavy machinery within the facility, including balers, sort lines, loaders, and forklifts, ensuring they are in optimal working condition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Familiarize with Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures for machinery safety;
  • Conduct regular inspections of all facility equipment, including buildings, sort lines, balers, and rolling stock, while completing the Daily Equipment Inspection Form;
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance and inspections, troubleshooting potential issues and executing repairs as necessary;
  • Engage in MIG welding and fabrication tasks;
  • Participate in daily plant meetings, discussing problems and observations with management;
  • Adhere to corporate policies and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations during all work activities;
  • Maintain accurate records of service cycles and maintenance activities;
  • Efficiently manage time and complete all assigned tasks;
  • Source quotes and place orders for spare parts, ensuring proper documentation;
  • Ensure operators complete pre-run inspections and maintenance services, documenting findings in the internal system;
  • Report any damages and necessary repairs to the Maintenance Manager;
  • Utilize and maintain all repair and testing tools and equipment;
  • Oversee preventative maintenance on all vehicles, equipment, and machinery;
  • Arrive on time with all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and tools;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Fundamental understanding and experience with Mechanical Systems (gears, pulleys, chains, belts, shafts, industrial gearboxes, water pumps, air compressors, HVAC systems);
  • Basic knowledge of Electrical Systems (AC and DC circuits, transformers, control power, relays);
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and seek assistance when needed;
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing equipment;
  • Competent in MIG welding and light to medium fabrication;
  • Effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines independently;
  • Basic computer skills for tasks such as emailing and reporting;
  • Adherence to company policies and safety standards;
  • Reliable transportation to and from work;
  • Consistent attendance record.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent;
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or related field with 5+ years of experience preferred;
  • ASE Certification is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must pass a drug/alcohol screening and physical ability test;
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and tolerate typical plant noises and odors;
  • Capable of performing physical activities requiring the use of arms and legs, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, carrying, and stooping;
  • Must be able to lift up to 45+ pounds as needed.
