Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Building Controls Technician to join our team at The Building People. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert services related to the expansion, upgrade, or replacement of building automation hardware and software for smart building infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and engineer control system hardware and software programming based on project plans, specifications, and other contract documents.
  • Program projects with various levels of complexity, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
  • Perform network troubleshooting, database troubleshooting, and repair programming to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team on system configuration, network, and software requirements, graphics, programming, and sequences of operations.
  • Develop and configure sequence of operations, programming, graphics, database, network, and integrations into third-party systems.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough project documentation and redlines.
  • Provide owner training as required by the project.
  • Execute system commissioning and functional testing.
  • Assist in the installation of control hardware.
  • Startup and commission new hardware installations.
  • Provide project management assistance on projects as required, interfacing directly with customers.
  • Supervise sub-contractors and suppliers as needed.
  • Help educate lower-level technicians through on-the-job training as needed.

Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Programming skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong interactive and communication skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with electronics and basic electrical circuits.
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to use appropriate tools.
  • Excellent customer service and ability to work well with others.
  • Knowledge of DDC Control Theory and Applications as related to HVAC equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of common DDC communications protocols such as BACnet, LON, Modbus, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of experience with programming, startup, and commissioning of control systems.
  • Niagara N4 certification.
  • Experience with multiple manufacturers of controls a plus.
  • Technical knowledge with installation of controls equipment and ancillary devices.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physically able to climb overhead or crawl under spaces to complete jobs.
  • Must be willing to work at heights.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times.
