Compensation Structure

At Atlassian, we are committed to establishing fair and transparent compensation practices. Our baseline compensation is designed to exceed typical market standards, and we generally expect to onboard candidates near this baseline. The specific base salary is influenced by the candidate's skills, expertise, and experience. In the United States, we categorize our pay into three geographic zones, with the following salary ranges for this role:

Zone A: $279,600 - $372,800

Zone B: $251,600 - $335,500

Zone C: $232,100 - $309,400

This position may also qualify for additional benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity options.

Key Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Senior Principal Engineer to lead initiatives within the Enterprise team, reporting directly to the Head of Engineering for the Enterprise Platform. This role addresses critical challenges for Atlassian, facilitating the transition of Enterprise clients to cloud solutions and applying enterprise-level strategies across our product suite to enhance customer experiences. You will collaborate with approximately 1000 engineers to tackle complex and significant challenges, providing guidance on technical direction, project prioritization, system design, architecture, and hands-on development.

In this Role, You Will:

  • Establish and communicate a clear vision and roadmap for various projects within the Enterprise team.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on cross-company initiatives.
  • Inspire and influence technical teams by exemplifying engineering excellence in design, architecture, and coding practices.
  • Develop and implement systems that are reliable, secure, scalable, and maintainable.
  • Mentor and support engineers and engineering managers.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to engineering leaders within the Enterprise team and across the organization.
  • Identify future needs and challenges while addressing current engineering obstacles.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and evaluate their relevance to Atlassian's future direction.

Your Qualifications:

On your first day, we anticipate you will possess:

  • Extensive technical leadership experience with over 15 years in designing and developing cloud-based enterprise solutions utilizing AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Proven experience in architecting and building widely adopted scalable platforms and components.
  • The ability to define technical strategies and educate the organization in your area of expertise.
  • A passion for software engineering excellence, providing mentorship and technical guidance.
  • Experience in identifying and addressing gaps and redundancies across teams.
  • Capability to articulate clear technical solutions and lead engineers through collaboration.
  • Hands-on coding experience and proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Java, Kotlin, C, C++.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of industry experience.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science.
  • In-depth knowledge of public cloud technologies, particularly AWS, with transferable skills from other providers.
  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems, cloud data management, storage technologies, security, and encryption.
  • Experience leading engineering teams through significant technological transformations.

Compensation Overview:

At Atlassian, we prioritize equitable and transparent compensation structures. Our baseline compensation is above typical market rates, and we generally hire candidates near this baseline, determined by individual skills and experience.

In the United States, our current salary ranges for this role are:

Zone A: $279,600 - $372,800

Zone B: $251,600 - $335,500

Zone C: $232,100 - $309,400

This role may also be eligible for additional benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
