Position Overview

The Commercial Loan Officer (CLO) plays a pivotal role in cultivating and enhancing profitable commercial lending relationships through proactive networking and outreach efforts with local influencers such as accountants, attorneys, and brokers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial assessments and evaluations of potential commercial loan opportunities, including site evaluations.
  • Analyze and structure loan applications, aligning Unity's credit principles with the needs of the applicant.
  • Draft and submit to the credit department a preliminary loan proposal, encompassing collateral, cash flow, and guarantor evaluations, along with all necessary documentation.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of all information included in the loan proposal.
  • Present loan proposals to senior management or the executive loan committee.
  • Support the credit and closing teams in gathering required documentation to ensure timely loan closings.
  • Promote additional Unity Bank products and services to clients.
  • Monitor and report on the activity of assigned loan portfolios to senior management in accordance with Unity Bank policies.
  • Oversee ongoing financial performance, including renewals and necessary documentation.
  • Fulfill other reporting obligations as directed by senior management.
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Collections, Retail) regarding the assigned loan portfolio as needed.
Additional Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of commercial lending standards is essential.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Proven track record in successful commercial loan origination.
  • Ability to cross-sell banking products effectively.
  • Willingness to travel locally as required.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours for evening business events.
Education and Experience
  • Preferred college degree.
  • Formal training in bank credit is advantageous.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in commercial lending is required.
Skills and Competencies
  • Performance is evaluated based on the volume of new commercial loans originated, new retail accounts opened, and the number and type of referrals made to Unity Bank partners.
  • Individual performance metrics will be discussed upon hiring.
Technical Proficiencies:
  • Proficient in PC usage.
  • Familiarity with software applications including Word, Excel, and FISERV (preferred).
  • Competence in operating office equipment (e.g., fax, copier, printer).
Physical Demands
  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods, up to 75% of the workday.
  • Capability to use hands for grasping and handling tasks.
  • Proficiency in using a computer keyboard and system for data entry and information processing.
  • Ability to read a computer screen at close range.
  • Effective communication skills, including talking, hearing, and seeing.
  • Ability to use telephones and other office equipment for communication.
Work Environment
  • Moderate noise levels typical of a business office setting with office machines, computers, and personnel traffic.
