Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our team at Virginia Jobs. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing direct care to patients undergoing renal dialysis treatments and supporting administrative functions under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and monitor equipment used for hemodialysis, ensuring a safe and efficient treatment process.
  • Perform delegated tasks and skills in accordance with policy, procedure, and competency to promote patient health and wellness.
  • Maintain necessary skills and competencies to perform clinical functions related to dialysis.
  • Support Renal Services standards related to the hemodialysis environment, ensuring a safe and clean environment for patients.
  • Provide effective and efficient operations while maintaining consistent and accurate communication with team members, providers, and patients.
  • Assist with data collection for physical, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions of patients according to professional practice standards and institutional policy/procedure.
  • Organize and prioritize daily work assignments to support patient needs, the interdisciplinary team, and operational efficiency.
  • Reinforce patient/family teaching plan based on identified health education needs and the condition and age of the patient through approved educational materials or written instructions.
  • Provide clinical support to licensed healthcare professionals during examinations and procedures, including preparing laboratory specimens, performing testing, and cleaning and sterilizing instruments/equipment.
  • Document and capture charges for clinical support services rendered within the patient visit.
  • Perform administrative support responsibilities, including drafting letters and assisting with completion of forms, facilitating scheduling, and assisting with clinic/chart prep.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent.
  • Previous healthcare experience preferred.
  • Certified as a Patient Care Dialysis Technician by a State Agency or Nationally Recognized Certification Program within 18 months of hire date.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
Physical Demands

The job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling; repetitive motion: building dialysis machines and wrist rotation. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, noise, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
