Position Overview:

The Surgical Support Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring a sterile environment for surgical procedures. This includes the meticulous arrangement of sterile instruments, assisting surgeons with gowning and gloving, and preparing patients for surgical interventions. The specialist actively supports the surgical team during operations by efficiently passing instruments and supplies, holding retractors, and anticipating the needs of the surgeons throughout the procedure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the sterile field and ensure all instruments are prepared and available for use.
  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of the surgical area.
  • Distribute supplies and perform routine maintenance and testing of surgical equipment.
  • Comply with all relevant regulations and protocols to safeguard patient privacy and safety.
  • Participate in the orientation of new staff and assist in training as needed.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an accredited surgical technology program or equivalent military training.

Certification & Licensure:

  • BLS - Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification.

Experience:

  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience in a surgical setting.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Comprehensive understanding of surgical instruments, procedures, and equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and follow various forms of data and instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Effective communication skills to convey sensitive information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with a focus on prioritizing tasks.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Problem-solving skills to identify and address standard issues effectively.
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships with colleagues and healthcare professionals.

Work Schedule:

Full Time, Days, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.
