POSITION TITLE: Infrastructure Security Engineer

PROJECT SCOPE: The Infrastructure Security Engineer will be an integral part of an operations and maintenance (O&M) team tasked with the upkeep and security of a segregated infrastructure that includes Linux servers, workstations, network-attached storage, and networking devices. The ideal candidate will possess a diverse skill set and demonstrate the ability to adapt and learn new technologies to continuously enhance and evaluate system optimization opportunities.

The Infrastructure Security Engineer will collaborate within a varied team, engaging directly with clients, end users, software developers, and other project stakeholders on a daily basis. Key responsibilities will encompass conducting routine security assessments of hardware and components within the system, analyzing security findings, and assisting in the planning and execution of necessary security updates and patches to ensure compliance and accreditation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee, evaluate, and uphold information security protocols for the hardware and systems that constitute the network infrastructure.
  • Ensure adherence to sponsor security policies and directives.
  • Conduct and interpret system and network security evaluations and assessments.
  • Convert security findings into actionable steps for fellow maintenance team members.
  • Collaborate as part of an integrated product team comprising multiple vendors.
  • Monitor, assess, and assist in addressing any security issues identified within the managed infrastructure.
  • Review system security standards and propose recommendations for ongoing improvement.
  • Support the program team with configuration management and logistics related to the information system architecture.
  • Assist in planning and executing phased hardware upgrades to enhance service, security, and support of the system and network.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Security Clearance:
  • Active TS/SCI with polygraph

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong understanding of information security policies and best practices as outlined by industry authorities such as the Center for Internet Security (CIS), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Department of Defense (DoD), Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs).
  • Familiarity with system and network security scanning tools (e.g., Nexpose, Nmap, Nessus, etc.).
  • Ability to translate security findings into actionable steps for team members.
  • Proven experience in scanning and updating RedHat/Rocky Linux distributions on servers and workstations.
  • Working knowledge of networking, basic routing, and security scanning and updating of network devices.
  • Capability to perform data transfer operations between isolated systems and networks.
  • Demonstrated expertise in information security principles and best practices to protect information systems.
  • Understanding of scalable infrastructure and applications is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication abilities for addressing service desk inquiries and requests.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to grasp the overall perspective.
