Job Summary

The YMCA of the Triangle Area is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lifeguard to maintain safe swimming conditions in our pool and surrounding areas. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for creating a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain active surveillance of the pool area to ensure the safety of members and participants.
  • Respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Maintain effective relationships with members, participants, and other staff to provide excellent customer service.
  • Know and apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  • Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and perform chemical testing as required.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service training to stay up-to-date on YMCA policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Certifications required for this position include CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent certification.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.
  • Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatics environment.
  • Remain alert with no lapses in consciousness.
  • See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
  • Move objects with a weight of up to 50 pounds.
