The Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivering respiratory therapy services aimed at evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients with various respiratory and pulmonary conditions.

This role involves assessing patient health, collaborating with medical professionals to establish suitable treatment strategies, and monitoring patient recovery post-procedure to gauge treatment effectiveness.

Additionally, the Respiratory Therapist meticulously documents all patient care activities, ensuring adherence to the established quality care standards and departmental regulations.

The Pulmonary Lab offers diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients experiencing a range of pulmonary issues. A Pulmonary Function Lab Technologist conducts tests that assist in diagnosing numerous respiratory ailments.

These assessments encompass pulmonary function tests, methacholine challenge tests, cardio-pulmonary stress evaluations, inpatient and outpatient bronchoscopy, oxygen qualification assessments, and advanced bronchoscopy techniques such as endobronchial ultrasound.

This position also encompasses providing Pulmonary Rehabilitation and educational support to patients.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Engages with colleagues, visitors, and other personnel in alignment with the values of Thomas Jefferson University. 2. Administers respiratory therapy as prescribed by physicians, including oxygen therapy, respiratory medications, pulmonary function tests (PFTs), arterial blood gases (ABGs), and mechanical ventilation. 3.

Conducts both invasive and non-invasive evaluation procedures to ascertain respiratory care requirements, offering appropriate recommendations based on departmental protocols to enhance patient outcomes and facilitate discharge.

4.

Monitors patients on mechanical ventilation, performing clinical assessments, routine evaluations, troubleshooting, weaning, airway management, and diagnostic testing to ensure patient safety and optimal care.

5. Collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath samples for diagnostic purposes, measuring lung capacity to identify any impairments. 6. Provides diagnostic findings and treatment recommendations based on patient analysis. 7. Communicates effectively with other healthcare team members to guarantee continuity of care and coordination of services. 8. Ensures the efficient operation of the PFT and ABG laboratory, along with other responsibilities as assigned by supervisors or managers.

Required Qualifications:
Professional expertise in Respiratory Care consistent with NBRC credentials.

Educational Background: Graduate of an AMA accredited School of Respiratory Care. Licensed by the State Board of Medicine or State Board of Osteopathic Medicine. Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) is mandatory. An Associate's/2-year degree is required.

Registered with the National Board of Respiratory Care (if not certified or registered by the NBRC, must obtain NBRC registration within two years of employment).

Preferred Qualifications:
ACLS and/or NALS certification is preferred. Previous experience in the field is advantageous.

As this position involves regular interaction with children in care, guidance, supervision, or training, candidates must comply with the Child Protective Services Act, including a Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check, Pennsylvania Department of Welfare child abuse clearance, and an FBI fingerprint-based federal criminal records check.
