Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Animal Care Specialist to join our team at the Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County. As an Animal Care Specialist, you will be responsible for providing daily care and attention to animals in our shelter, ensuring their health and well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care and attention to animals, including feeding, cleaning, and exercising
  • Monitor the behavior and health of animals, reporting any issues to supervisors
  • Assist with animal intake, evaluation, and medical treatments as directed
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of animal care and treatment
  • Respond to patron inquiries related to animal health education and related programs

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Certified Animal Euthanasia Technician (CAET) certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire
  • Pre-exposure rabies vaccinations required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and lift up to 50 pounds

Working Environment

The Animal Care Specialist will work in a medium to heavy work environment, involving walking, standing, bending, stooping, lifting, and exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular and reoccurring basis. The position may also involve exposure to toxic and caustic chemicals, and animals/wildlife, including exposure to animal bites, scratches, and diseases.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree or higher in a related field
  • Experience in animal care and handling
