Medical Laboratory Scientist

Mass General Brigham is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team in Everett, Massachusetts.
This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, where you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to blood banking and transfusion medicine.
Key Responsibilities- Perform all tasks required for blood banking and transfusion medicine, including answering phone calls, specimen log in, filling orders, and issuing products.
- Select products for transfusion to minimize wastage and show good judgment in recognizing emergent situations.
- Interact professionally with other departments to receive orders, respond to developing situations, and seek technical guidance from senior technologists when appropriate.
- Manage the Coordinating Area in the absence of a Senior Technologist or when assigned.
- Perform work in a manner that ensures accurate test results, including ABO, Rh, antibody screening, compatibility testing, direct antiglobulin test, and transfusion reaction investigation.
- Maintain optimal workflow for the area and incorporate STAT requests into routine testing.
- Follow up on samples with discrepant results and communicate with coworkers when additional work is required.
- Operate Blood Bank instrumentation efficiently and perform basic troubleshooting.
- Perform QC and equipment maintenance.
- Share responsibility for answering alarms and respond appropriately, including long-term alarm inhibitions.
- Comply with cGMPs to manufacture components and perform all tasks required to ensure accurate disposition of all products from the Component Lab.
- Perform all product modification tasks and accurately log blood products, tissue, and supplies into inventory.
- Perform all Reference procedures, recognize, investigate, and resolve basic and intermediate serological problems to completion.
- Prioritize and complete tasks, including associated paperwork, accurately and in a timely manner.
- Participate in projects to enhance the Blood Bank and work independently towards completing projects within the assigned timeline.
- Ensure ongoing training and increase knowledge of different areas within the Blood Bank.
- Complete annual required competency assessments and participate in training Blood Bank employees, students, and medical staff as assigned.
- Meet department requirements for continuing education and adhere to the blood bank's departmental standards for professionalism.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, senior technologists, co-workers, and other hospital employees and be a positive role model and resource for staff.
- Employ effective communication skills when dealing with all BWH staff and understand and promote the BWH and Blood Bank Mission and Vision Statements.
- Adhere to BWH policies for BTU use, tardiness, breaks, and computer Internet use and familiar with and follow all policies and procedures for each area of the Blood Bank.
- Effectively prioritize tasks to meet patient and departmental needs and comply with all hospital safety requirements.
- Be knowledgeable about hospital policies concerning fire drills, OSHA regulations, hazardous waste management, chemical hygiene plan, and radiation safety.
- Requires Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related science.
- MT(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) or equivalent certification.
- Successful completion of the hospital's Trustworthiness and Reliability assessment.
- Unescorted access to the Blood Bank Irradiators is a requirement of the position.
