Role Description

The Residential Support Specialist plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive care to individuals, empowering them to achieve independence and productivity. This position involves both supervised and unsupervised interactions with residents, ensuring their well-being in various settings.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assist in the formulation, development, and execution of personalized goals and training programs to enhance the skills of individuals, including but not limited to:

  • Accessing community resources

  • Housekeeping tasks
  • Health maintenance
  • Adaptive living skills
  • Nutritional education
  • Career development
  • Social skills enhancement
Monitor the progress of individuals, which includes observing, documenting, and performing various physical tasks such as lifting and traveling. Provide essential training in daily living skills and other relevant areas.

  1. Coordinate safety protocols and ensure resident security during emergencies, including fire drills, which requires the ability to assist others in navigating stairs and exits.
  2. Oversee and support individuals in the self-administration of medications.
  3. Skills required include effective communication, observation for side effects, and monitoring health conditions.
  4. Implement crisis intervention strategies and adhere to incident reporting protocols.
  5. Maintain accurate records and documentation, including case notes and progress reports.
  6. Engage regularly with individuals and the management team to assess goal achievement.
  7. Facilitate and accompany individuals to recreational activities during evenings and weekends, participating in physical activities as part of the program.
  8. Assist in organizing daily activities and events.
  9. Attend mandatory staff meetings, training sessions, and annual reviews, which may occur at various locations and times.
  10. Communicate essential information to team members and supervisors through verbal and written means.
  11. Serve as a positive role model for individuals.
  12. Ensure confidentiality and proper record-keeping.
  13. Assist with meal preparation and dining experiences.
  14. Support individuals with laundry and clothing care.
  15. Actively participate in interdisciplinary team planning.
  16. Demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing documentation and using communication tools.
  17. Provide coverage at the front desk as needed.
  18. Capable of lifting and transporting supplies.

Additional Duties:
  1. Follow up on aftercare recommendations and accompany individuals to appointments as necessary.
  2. Assist individuals in locating and utilizing community resources that align with their needs and objectives.
  3. Flexibility in work schedules and locations is required.
  4. Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  5. Other duties may be assigned by supervisors as needed.
Qualifications

A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Experience in supporting adults with behavioral health challenges or disabilities is preferred.
