Role Description
The Residential Support Specialist plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive care to individuals, empowering them to achieve independence and productivity. This position involves both supervised and unsupervised interactions with residents, ensuring their well-being in various settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the formulation, development, and execution of personalized goals and training programs to enhance the skills of individuals, including but not limited to:
- Financial management
- Personal grooming
- Meal planning
- Public transportation navigation
- Accessing community resources
- Shopping skills
- Housekeeping tasks
- Health maintenance
- Adaptive living skills
- Nutritional education
- Career development
- Social skills enhancement
- Coordinate safety protocols and ensure resident security during emergencies, including fire drills, which requires the ability to assist others in navigating stairs and exits.
- Oversee and support individuals in the self-administration of medications.
- Skills required include effective communication, observation for side effects, and monitoring health conditions.
- Implement crisis intervention strategies and adhere to incident reporting protocols.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation, including case notes and progress reports.
- Engage regularly with individuals and the management team to assess goal achievement.
- Facilitate and accompany individuals to recreational activities during evenings and weekends, participating in physical activities as part of the program.
- Assist in organizing daily activities and events.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings, training sessions, and annual reviews, which may occur at various locations and times.
- Communicate essential information to team members and supervisors through verbal and written means.
- Serve as a positive role model for individuals.
- Ensure confidentiality and proper record-keeping.
- Assist with meal preparation and dining experiences.
- Support individuals with laundry and clothing care.
- Actively participate in interdisciplinary team planning.
- Demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing documentation and using communication tools.
- Provide coverage at the front desk as needed.
- Capable of lifting and transporting supplies.
Additional Duties:
- Follow up on aftercare recommendations and accompany individuals to appointments as necessary.
- Assist individuals in locating and utilizing community resources that align with their needs and objectives.
- Flexibility in work schedules and locations is required.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Other duties may be assigned by supervisors as needed.
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Experience in supporting adults with behavioral health challenges or disabilities is preferred.
