Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Centralized Sterile Processing Manager to join our team at the Detroit Medical Center. As a key member of our sterile processing department, you will be responsible for managing the sterile processing activities, including case cart preparation, sterilization, reprocessing, packaging, and delivery of surgical and patient care instrumentation and equipment used in the operating rooms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the sterile processing activities, including case cart preparation, sterilization, reprocessing, packaging, and delivery of surgical and patient care instrumentation and equipment used in the operating rooms.
  • Supervise and direct the activities of shift supervisors and coordinators, ensuring that established aseptic, sterile, and infection control techniques and procedures are followed.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as Ambulatory Surgery, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Angiography, clinics, Emergency Departments, and general and acute Nursing Units, to ensure the delivery of instruments and equipment.
  • Develop and implement quality control standards, ensuring that established aseptic, sterile, and infection control techniques and procedures are followed.
  • Monitor and analyze workflow and productivity, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes as necessary.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and techniques for the entire Central Sterile Processing function across the system.
  • Recommend changes to policies, procedures, and techniques as necessary.
  • Act as a liaison to hospital committees, such as Infection Control, to ensure compliance with laws, government regulations, JCAHO requirements, and DMC policies.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring budgets for Central Sterile Processing.
  • Work with OR directors and OR service coordinators to resolve issues and improve workflow.
Requirements
  • Associate degree in Business and/or Nursing or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to five years progressively more responsible experience processing specialized surgical and patient care instrumentation and equipment, according to established standards.
  • Certification through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or the International Association of Healthcare, Central Services and Materials (IAHCSMM) within 6 months of hire date.
