Role Overview:
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will be responsible for diagnosing and managing conditions related to the digestive system. This role is designed to support a growing Gastrointestinal (GI) program, with an expected balance of approximately 50% inpatient and 50% outpatient responsibilities. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating empathy and fostering collaboration with both allied health professionals and referring physicians. The successful candidate will have specialized expertise in diagnosing and treating digestive tract disorders under physician supervision. Responsibilities may include advanced assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, implementation, evaluation, patient education, and preparation for endoscopic procedures. Orientation in the GI specialty will be available for qualified candidates under the guidance of a physician.
Direct Patient Care Responsibilities:
- Conduct consultations and interpret diagnostic results to formulate treatment plans for both inpatients and outpatients.
- Demonstrate proficiency in pre-endoscopy evaluations, scheduling, and logistical planning.
- Facilitate care coordination and collaboration with referring colleagues.
Indirect Patient Care Responsibilities:
- Provide education to patients regarding their conditions and available treatment options.
- Advise patients on dietary adjustments and lifestyle changes to enhance their health outcomes.
- Commit to ongoing professional development and engage in departmental educational and research initiatives.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
- Possession of a Physician Assistant Degree or Nurse Practitioner qualification.
- Experience in Orthopedics is preferred.
Licensure and Certification Requirements:
- Must be licensed as a Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland or eligible for licensure.
Minimum Experience/Qualifications: A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in teaching, program development, and familiarity with electronic medical records is advantageous.
