Role Overview:

The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will play a vital role in diagnosing and managing conditions related to the digestive system. This position is designed to support a growing Gastrointestinal (GI) program, with an expected distribution of clinical duties comprising approximately 50% inpatient and 50% outpatient care. Candidates should possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating empathy and fostering collegial relationships with both allied health professionals and referring physicians. The ideal candidate will have specialized expertise in diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal disorders under the supervision of a physician. Responsibilities may include advanced assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, implementation, evaluation, patient education, and preparation for endoscopic procedures. Orientation to the GI specialty will be provided for qualified candidates under physician supervision.

Direct Patient Care Responsibilities:

  • Conduct consultations, interpret diagnostic results, and formulate treatment plans for both inpatient and outpatient cases as needed.
  • Exhibit proficiency in pre-endoscopy evaluations, scheduling, and logistical planning.
  • Coordinate care and collaborate effectively with referring colleagues and specialists.

Indirect Patient Care Responsibilities:

  • Educate patients regarding their health conditions and available treatment options.
  • Provide guidance on dietary adjustments and lifestyle changes that can enhance patient well-being.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and actively participate in departmental educational and research initiatives.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Degree in Physician Assistant Studies or Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Experience in Orthopedics is preferred.

Licensure and Certification Requirements:

  • Must hold a valid license as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland or be eligible for licensure.

Minimum Experience/Qualifications: A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in teaching, program development, and familiarity with electronic medical records is advantageous.
