Role Summary

The Mechanical Engineer will be part of a fast-paced team developing new Steam Sterilizers at STERIS. This role will involve interacting with other engineering disciplines and cross-functional team members during the development lifecycle phases from concept development through final release.

The successful candidate will utilize problem-solving techniques and engineering principles such as statics, machine design, thermodynamics, heat transfer, material selection, and fabrication to develop solutions for medical equipment.

This position will be involved in 3D modeling, design controls documentation, design verification testing, and hands-on prototyping while developing new and innovative solutions for our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and systems using 3D modeling software and analysis
  • Collaborate with other engineers, designers, and technicians to ensure that all design aspects are aligned with the program's goals
  • Participate in product verification and validation actions
  • Communicate technical information to management
  • Work with outside vendors to ensure components used are appropriate for use and delivered on time
  • Create drawings and bill of materials for assemblies and individual components
  • Create technical documents for testing, crating, shipping, installation, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required
  • Relevant co-op/internship experience in a mechanical engineering role within new product development required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational, planning, and scheduling skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • 3D modeling experience
  • Basic engineering analysis skills
  • Knowledge of basic drawing practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of mechanical engineering experience in product design
  • FEA experience (ANSYS)
  • Pressure vessel design experience
  • Experience with PLM systems
  • Product testing and validation experience
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication and welding
