About Us

The Category Management division presents a distinctive opportunity to shape strategies for AMEX's key product segments through strong internal and external collaboration. We act as representatives of the product categories we oversee, playing a pivotal role as AMEX transforms the supplier experience into a platform that offers suppliers enhanced data, transparency, and control while maintaining the high-touch elements that make working with AMEX exceptional. Within this role, you will be expected to set broad objectives and strategies for your category, tackle challenges, articulate and implement tactical plans, and monitor essential business metrics. Team members must excel in negotiation both internally and externally, while also demonstrating effective project management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine strategic category plans to meet revenue and profitability targets.
  • Analyze category performance and events to derive actionable insights and adjust business strategies accordingly.
  • Conduct market and product category analyses to assess trends.
  • Foster relationships and collaboration with cross-functional teams to identify and address assortment opportunities.
  • Negotiate favorable terms with suppliers regarding selection, pricing, and quantities.
  • Build partnerships with brands to achieve shared business objectives.
  • Identify new designers and brands to enhance and expand product selections across categories.
  • Collaborate with various cross-functional partners (Pricing, Promotions, Operations, Merchandising, etc.).

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in an e-commerce or corporate retail setting is preferred.
  • A strong interest in pursuing a career in buying, merchandising, or supplier relationship management.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A personable and dynamic communicator, enthusiastic about building relationships with new business partners.
  • Comfortable engaging directly with C-suite level suppliers from large organizations.
  • Strong organizational abilities with the capacity to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • An interest in, and/or capability to learn retail math concepts.
  • Analytical mindset with a knack for deriving insights from data.
  • A self-starter who can quickly adapt and achieve specific targets.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and mindset.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Google Suite is preferred.
  • A passion for driving growth and the ability to think beyond existing limitations.
  • Demonstrated potential to work effectively within a cross-functional team.
  • A desire to develop business plans and provide strategic initiatives.
