Mechanical and Industrial Piping Estimator

The Mechanical and Industrial Piping Estimator will be responsible for generating cost estimates for the mechanical and plumbing aspects of designated projects. Utilizing advanced software tools, the Estimator will simulate construction processes and assess the financial implications of various design options. This role involves consulting historical data and project records to benchmark costs against similar endeavors. The output of the Estimator's work will encompass detailed cost breakdowns for elements such as materials and labor, alongside a projected timeline for project execution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Acquire in-depth knowledge of Mark III Construction's estimating framework, including relevant software and documentation.
  • Analyze proposal specifications and drawings, participating in pre-bid meetings to clarify the scope of work and ensure comprehensive estimates.
  • Produce thorough, precise, and timely estimates reflecting the project's mechanical systems, associated costs, overhead, and profit margins.
  • Conduct quantity take-offs for mechanical and industrial piping systems across various project types.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotes and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Maintain organized records of bid documents, notes, and assumptions related to project estimates.
  • Perform layout and sizing of piping systems as necessary to create complete estimates when documentation is incomplete.
  • Establish productivity benchmarks tailored to the unique requirements of each project.
  • Generate conceptual budget estimates based on system narratives or sketches.
  • Execute additional related tasks as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Proficient in the estimating process for various delivery methods including plan/spec, design assist, and design build.
  • Skilled in structuring estimates and developing models that align with project-specific requirements.
  • Ability to interpret architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical plans, with familiarity in HVAC and piping systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and current technology trends.
  • Experience with Bluebeam software is advantageous.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Exhibit strong organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Effectively engage with vendors, clients, field personnel, and office staff.
  • Maintain established relationships with vendors and clients.
  • Possess excellent verbal, written, analytical, persuasive, and interpersonal skills.

Education and Experience:
  • A minimum of five years in mechanical engineering or construction, with knowledge of HVAC, piping, and plumbing system designs being advantageous.
  • Experience with estimating software systems is essential, with specific knowledge of Autobid/Quickpen being a plus.
  • Five years of relevant mechanical/industrial piping estimating experience.
  • Prior experience as a journeyman is preferred.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Participation in site visits, including climbing ladders and walking on roofs.
