Job Summary

Henry Ford Health System is seeking a skilled Optical Manufacturing Specialist to join our team. As an Optical Manufacturing Specialist, you will be responsible for performing manual manufacturing duties for our finishing line, following process instructions to produce finished eyeglasses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Trace frames and mount lenses in basic, semi-rimless, and plastic frames
  • Move job trays between areas on the line as required
  • Place leap pads on finishing blocks and operate semi-automatic finish blockers
  • Perform lens tinting and marking progressive lenses on witness engravings
  • Operate edgers to clear errors and manually block lenses for surfacing line and deblock lenses from surfacing line
  • Perform basic eyeglass repair, including fixing missing or broken screws and eye wires, and resizing large lenses
  • Operate an arc lamp to identify cosmetic defects and assemble and repair drill mount eyewear
  • Perform advanced repair of frames, including replacement or shortening of temple ends, advanced setting adjustments, and calibration of finishing equipment
  • Use lensometers and follow process instructions, whether written or verbal
  • Adhere to 6S principles at all times and perform other duties as instructed by management
Requirements
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Two (2) years of experience in an Optical lab preferred
  • Basic computer skills, including reading and executing machine commands on screens
  • Dexterity to handle small tools and parts, such as screwdrivers and frame screws
  • Ability to understand verbal and/or written instructions
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as needed
  • Can be trained to perform job responsibilities
Certifications/Licenses
  • Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards, and behaviors as outlined in the Henry Ford Health Customer Service Policy
  • Must practice customer skills as provided through on-going training and in-services
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
  • Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 20 lbs. for an entire shift
  • Ability to follow process instructions
  • Dexterity to handle small tools and parts, such as screwdrivers and frame screws
