Job Overview:

The role involves the preparation of diverse financial statements and analytical accounting reports, including statistical and narrative documentation for the department, auditors, and other relevant entities.

Responsibilities include classifying receipts based on funds, projects, and programs, as well as maintaining and reconciling records for trust funds, claims, receivables, fixed assets, revenues, and expenditures.

The position may also involve training and supervising clerical staff in ledger entries, reconciliations, trial balance preparation, payroll record maintenance, and other fiscal record-keeping tasks.

Maintaining fiscal records for the department/agency with various accounting functions is essential. This includes preparing, examining, verifying, and screening fiscal documents such as vouchers, warrants, requisitions, purchase orders, receiving records, and invoices. The role also requires recording transactions in subsidiary and general ledgers and making necessary adjusting entries.

Additionally, the position involves initiating electronic transfers to interface with financial institutions, federal, state, and local agencies, as well as other departments.


Experience Required:
The ideal candidate will possess 3 to 4 years of full-time experience in accounting. A degree is preferred, but a junior-level candidate with strong accounting proficiency will also be considered.

Alternatively, candidates with four (4) years of progressively responsible professional accounting, auditing, or administrative experience that includes significant accounting and fiscal duties will be considered.


Substitution:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a specialization in accounting, finance, or a closely related field may substitute for three years of the required experience.


Knowledge and Skills:
Candidates should have a solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, governmental accounting, and auditing principles, as well as business office practices. Proficiency in computer spreadsheet and word processing applications is also necessary.

Abilities:
Successful candidates will be able to interpret and apply business and governmental laws and regulations, prepare comprehensive and clear accounting and statistical reports, operate standard office equipment, read and interpret financial reports, work independently, exercise sound judgment, communicate effectively in both written and oral forms, and learn specific accounting information systems.
