Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Animal Veterinary Nurse II to join our Animal Quality team at our Seattle, WA site. This hybrid position offers flexibility to work equal parts onsite and remote.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the health and welfare of our laboratory animals. Key responsibilities include performing necropsies, monitoring colony health, and training operations staff on veterinary protocols. Additionally, the candidate will support flow cytometry tasks and drive compliance with animal welfare standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor animal health and welfare concerns at Taconic facilities.
  • Perform necropsies as needed and report findings to veterinary staff.
  • Enter, pull reports, and screen clinical data for colony health changes.
  • Extract clinical data for site veterinarian to respond to internal or external customers.
  • Evaluate anomalous animals and communicate findings to veterinary staff.
  • Provide training to animal technicians on veterinary procedures.
  • Schedule special health monitoring when needed.
  • Conduct special projects as assigned and document findings for veterinary review.
  • Support and perform flow cytometry tasks as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, or technical/managerial experience at an equivalent level.
  • Veterinary technician/nurse degree with laboratory animal coursework.
  • WA State licensed veterinary technician required.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience and/or training.
  • Supervisory experience a plus.

Travel and Work Environment:

  • Occasional travel is required, generally 2 to 5 trips per year.
  • This position requires travel to a nearby laboratory to perform testing for flow cytometry as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires some physical exertion, including long periods of standing, recurring bending and lifting, and the ability to lift items up to 25 pounds.
