Job Title: Veterinary Specialist

The University of Washington is seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Specialist to join our team at the Washington National Primate Center (WaNPRC). As a key member of our veterinary team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care to our nonhuman primate population.

Job Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to provide a safe and healthy environment for our nonhuman primates, ensuring their well-being and facilitating outstanding biomedical research. You will work closely with our veterinary team to develop and implement care plans, conduct health monitoring, and provide technical support for research projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide veterinary care to nonhuman primates, including routine health checks, vaccinations, and medical procedures.
  • Develop and implement care plans to ensure the health and well-being of our nonhuman primate population.
  • Conduct health monitoring and data collection to support research projects.
  • Collaborate with our veterinary team to develop and implement protocols for animal care and research.
  • Provide technical support for research projects, including animal handling and restraint.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of animal care and research activities.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in animal technology or a related field.
  • Registration, certification, or licensure in an animal or veterinary technician field.
  • At least one year of experience working with nonhuman primates.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Registration as an Animal Technician in the State of Arizona.
  • Experience working in a research setting.
Working Conditions:

This position involves working in a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory with nonhuman primates. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow strict protocols to ensure the safety of both humans and animals.

This position requires a high level of physical fitness and the ability to lift and move animals as needed. You will also be required to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, to support research projects.
