The Patient Access Specialist plays a crucial role in gathering demographic and insurance details through both telephonic communication and direct patient interaction. This position necessitates the use of eligibility applications to initiate requests for insurance verification, interpret the responses, and accurately record relevant health insurance information pertaining to the services provided.
This role requires a comprehensive understanding of contractual benefits related to the services delivered, alongside the capability to engage in financial discussions with patients regarding their payment obligations. Comfort in collecting financial responsibilities based on eligibility responses or service estimates is essential.
Education:
+ Associate's degree preferred
Licensure, Certification & Registration:
+ CHAA certification recommended
Experience:
+ Proficient computer skills
+ In-depth knowledge of insurance processes
+ 3 to 5 years of relevant experience
+ Experience in a Hospital Emergency Department is preferred
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
+ Ability to thrive in the high-pressure environment of a Level I Trauma Center
+ Proficient in multitasking within a fast-paced, high patient volume setting; capable of managing intense situations
+ Strong judgment and resourcefulness in problem-solving; ability to escalate issues when necessary
+ Capability to manage bodily fluids and maintain a sanitary environment
+ Proficient in operating a multi-line telephone system; paging duties required
+ Physical ability to push weights and stand for extended periods
