Job Summary

We are seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join our team at VCU Health. The successful candidate will provide direct patient care, emotional support, and problem-solving skills under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner.

Responsibilities
  • Provide age-specific care to patients based on medical orders and the plan of care.
  • Function under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager, and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem-solving.
  • Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor for time/schedule changes, legal issues, directed care, and identifying educational resources.
  • May handle, transport, access, and/or contact medications and related supplies.
Requirements
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association.
  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
  • One year of medical assistant work experience within the last three years if not a graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two to three years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Previous experience in an academic healthcare environment.
  • Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study.
Additional Requirements
  • Certified Medical Assistants work all three shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.
Physical Requirements
  • Lifting 20-50 lbs.
  • Prolonged standing, sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching.
  • Strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking.
  • Fast-paced environment, able to handle multiple priorities, adapt to frequent change.
