Job Description

Brook & Whittle Ltd. is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Press Assistant to join our team in the Finishing Department. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for assisting the Press Operator in all aspects of making readies and running a job.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the pressman directly in making readies and running a job.
  • Stage raw material rolls for the operator with core tags accessible for the operator.
  • Load raw material, make splices, and verify that all splices are of good quality.
  • Assist the operator in changeovers as needed.
  • Assist the operator during web breaks as needed.
  • Label finished rolls with correct neons and core tags as needed.
  • Monitor roll changes and keep abreast with roll numbers on the log.
  • Report machine and equipment breakdowns to the supervisor and maintenance personnel.
  • Understand and support all policies, procedures, instructions, rules, and regulations associated with the Finishing Department.
  • Consult with the department manager and Quality Assurance on any quality-related defects.
  • Assist in investigating root cause analysis and corrective actions for departmental needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Relocate skids, keeping product separation in mind, and maintain the pressroom in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Be responsible for completing all document information accurately.
  • Be able to work overtime as needed.
  • Be able to cover for operators while on vacation or breaks.
  • Consult with the Press Hall supervisor on all assigned duties.
  • All duties assigned to maximize the efficiency of press hall equipment.
  • Identify and help implement process improvements and increased productivity opportunities.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • S.M.E.D. Training desired.
  • One (1) year of machine experience or more working within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions:

  • Manufacturing environment – exposure to some hazardous conditions but not limited to dust, dirt, high noise levels, chemicals, etc. Safety regulations in place following OSHA guidelines.
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Must be able to stand for the majority of the shift.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, grasp, climb, and reach frequently.
