Thermal Systems Engineer for Fired Heaters Salary:
$95,000 - $130,000 Location: Houston, Texas

Our client, a prominent technology licensor and supplier of equipment for the Refining, Petrochemicals, Renewable Fuels, Sustainable Plastics, and Green Energy sectors, is seeking a Thermal Systems Engineer. The Process and Proposal department, part of the Technology & New Business Group, is dedicated to providing technical support across a diverse portfolio of technologies, products, and equipment, from initial proposals to project execution and after-sales services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
This is an entry-level role within the Process group, with primary responsibilities including:

- Conducting thermal design and process engineering for Fired Heaters, Electric Heaters, Waste Heat Recovery Units, and related auxiliaries to support technical proposals, projects, studies, and revamps.
- Collaborating with Commercial, Engineering, and Procurement teams on proposal activities.
- Preparing and reviewing designs for Fired Heaters, Electric Heaters, and Waste Heat Boilers.
- Developing datasheets and documentation for Fired and Electric Heaters, Waste Heat Boilers, and associated components such as burners, fans, Air Preheaters, and SCR systems.
- Creating P&IDs, reviewing line sizing, pump calculations, hydraulics, and preparing equipment and instrument datasheets, interlock summaries, and cause & effect diagrams.
- Participating in 3D model reviews and preparing material requisitions (RFQs).
- Evaluating vendor quotations and conducting technical bid analyses for items like burners, fans, and SCR system skids.
- Addressing technical queries and deviations raised by vendors.
- Participating in management estimate review meetings and engineering review meetings post-project award to ensure adherence to project schedules and review change orders.
- Assisting in burner testing and start-up procedures.
- Engaging in HAZOP and SIL reviews with clients, end users, or EPCs.
- Providing pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up support at client sites for major package items such as heaters, WHRUs, and SCR deNOx systems.
- Contributing to performance guarantee test runs and troubleshooting site issues.


TECHNICAL SKILLS, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Preferred experience in process/thermal design of Fired Heaters, Waste Heat Boilers, and associated systems.
