Job Title: Assistant Attorney General

The State of Montana's Attorney General's Office is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Attorney General to join our Appellate Services Bureau. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for representing the State of Montana in criminal cases appealed to the Montana Supreme Court.

Job Overview

The Appellate Services Bureau is responsible for representing the State of Montana in criminal cases that are appealed to the Montana Supreme Court. Our team of experienced attorneys works closely with prosecutors and other stakeholders to ensure that the State's interests are represented effectively. As an Assistant Attorney General, you will be responsible for handling complex cases, conducting legal research, and writing persuasive briefs.

Responsibilities
  • Represent the State of Montana in criminal cases appealed to the Montana Supreme Court
  • Conduct legal research and write persuasive briefs
  • Work closely with prosecutors and other stakeholders to ensure effective representation
  • Handle complex cases, including federal habeas corpus cases
  • Participate in oral arguments in the Montana Supreme Court
Requirements
  • Juris Doctor Degree
  • At least two years of specialized law and litigation experience
  • Admission to and maintenance of licensure from the State Bar of Montana
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines
