The Residential Support Specialist plays a crucial role in aiding individuals to achieve their personal goals within both home and community environments. The role includes providing backup support for Direct Support Professionals (DSP) as needed and offering administrative assistance to the management team.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver direct assistance to individuals with disabilities in a residential context to ensure their objectives are met.
- Support daily living activities, including household tasks, meal preparation, recreational pursuits, educational activities, and fitness routines.
- Accompany individuals on errands, providing necessary support to complete tasks.
- Advocate for the needs and interests of individuals served by the program.
- Contribute insights and suggestions for program planning tailored to individual needs.
- Complete all required documentation in compliance with organizational policies and relevant laws.
- Foster effective communication and collaborative relationships with staff, families, and the broader community.
- Participate in mandatory training sessions related to DSP and residential care.
- Be available for on-call situations, including crisis management, staff absences, and emergency preparedness.
- Perform general clerical tasks such as photocopying, filing, and scanning.
The ideal candidate will possess strong observational skills, effective verbal and written communication abilities, and the capacity to build and maintain productive relationships with individuals, staff, and the community. They should demonstrate analytical skills to identify issues and propose solutions, along with a solid understanding of intellectual disabilities and associated health and behavioral concerns. A caring demeanor and experience in conducting assessments and utilizing documentation tools are essential. This role requires successful completion of training in CPR, first aid, behavior management, and medication administration, as well as passing background checks.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED, with at least one year of paid experience in providing direction, development, and implementation of care services.
- A valid driver's license and proof of insurance are required.
- Employees and contractors of Impact Community Services must adhere to regulations, protect individuals from abuse, and cooperate with investigations as necessary.
