Role Summary

The Community Engagement Specialist plays a vital role in enhancing the experience of our members and fostering a sense of belonging within the community. This position focuses on promoting membership engagement, growth, and retention through meaningful interactions and exceptional service. The specialist will collaborate with wellness coaches to ensure a supportive and inviting orientation for new members.

Key Responsibilities:

Service Excellence:
  1. Welcome and assist all members, prospective members, and staff with professionalism and warmth.
  2. Conduct informative tours for potential members, highlighting the advantages of membership and available support.
  3. Utilize active listening skills to understand the goals of health-seekers and connect them with suitable resources.
  4. Coordinate with wellness staff to ensure new members participate in introductory sessions.
  5. Address member concerns promptly and courteously, resolving issues effectively.
  6. Manage the processing of new member ID cards and registrations for services.
  7. Handle phone inquiries following best practices.
  8. Be knowledgeable about emergency procedures and act accordingly in crisis situations.
  9. Assist with reporting and administrative tasks as needed.
  10. Support fundraising initiatives as directed.
  11. Stay informed about program offerings and volunteer opportunities.
  12. Communicate the YMCA's mission and values clearly.

Member Engagement:
  1. Understand the collaborative efforts between Membership and Wellness Departments to facilitate a smooth onboarding experience.
  2. Foster connections among members, volunteers, and staff.
  3. Encourage members to deepen their involvement with the YMCA.
  4. Promote various programs and initiatives during member interactions.
  5. Incorporate YMCA values into daily activities to enhance organizational culture.

Professional Development:
  1. Show a commitment to personal growth and skill enhancement.
  2. Engage with available learning resources to broaden knowledge.
  3. Maintain relevant certifications and stay updated on YMCA developments.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience is a plus.
  • Proficient in computer skills and adaptable to new software.
  • Exceptional customer service abilities.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Friendly demeanor with a willingness to assist others.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
