Job Title: Direct Support Professional

Friends of Children with Special Needs (FCSN) is a nonprofit organization seeking an energetic and patient Direct Support Professional to provide services to adults with developmental disabilities who live in their own homes and out in the communities.

Job Summary:

As a Direct Support Professional, you will work under the direction of the Case Manager to provide support and services to clients with complex needs. This may include working with clients who have low verbal abilities, poor comprehension, and some behavioral challenges. You will be responsible for implementing independent living skills, providing close supervision and training, and maintaining a safe and clean living environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement independent living skills curriculum in areas such as healthy meals, hygiene, sports, communication, and community outings.
  • Provide close supervision and training to participants.
  • Provide direct care services, such as personal care aides and home health aides, as needed.
  • Transport clients as needed.
  • Engage and motivate participants in learning and practicing skills.
  • Maintain a safe and clean living environment, minimizing health and safety risks.
  • Maintain a supportive and professional relationship with participants and their families.
  • Document participants' activities, medication intake, and progress daily.
  • Submit complete and accurate participant updates to the Case Manager in a timely manner.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including filing and maintaining client data.
  • Be compliant with HIPAA regulations.
  • Perform first aid and CPR, and other emergency services as needed.
Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Fluent in oral and written English.
  • One year or more experience working with developmentally disabled individuals preferred.
  • No smoking and passing drug testing required.
  • Must pass a fingerprint background check.
  • Recent clean TB test and health screening required.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid Certificate required.
  • Ability to work independently and display good judgment.
  • Strong time management skills, patient, and detailed oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with clients, parents, social workers, and others positively and constructively.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
