Position Information
Under the guidance of the Superintendent-General Services, perform plumbing tasks at a journey-level in the construction, repair, inspection, maintenance, installation, and modification of plumbing fixtures and systems, including sewage, water, irrigation, and swimming pool systems.
While executing their responsibilities, all employees are expected to:
- Deliver high-quality work within established timelines, both independently and collaboratively.

- Work independently while recognizing the importance of communication and coordination with other team members and departments.
- Follow relevant safety protocols, utilize provided safety gear, consistently practice appropriate safety measures, and promptly report any unsafe working conditions or hazards.
Execute plumbing tasks at a journey-level in the construction, repair, inspection, maintenance, installation, and modification of plumbing fixtures and systems, including sewage, water, irrigation, and swimming pool systems.
Assess backflow devices for various systems; diagnose issues and identify repair needs; install systems as required.
Install, repair, and replace toilets, sinks, urinals, drinking fountains, and related equipment at Park District facilities.
Install, repair, remove, and substitute sewer waste and vent line systems.
Evaluate plumbing and water systems, diagnose malfunctions, and determine repair requirements.
Maintain and create various records and reports related to work and maintenance performed; submit to the appropriate Park District and City personnel or department.
Inspect the flow and drainage of drinking fountains at Park District facilities.
Install, repair, and replace flushometers, vacuum breakers, faucets, and valves.
Utilize specialized equipment to detect underground utilities, such as water and gas mains, laterals, and sewer and storm drainage systems; operate a variety of inspection and repair equipment, including power roto-rooters, power snakes, and various power and hand tools; utilize a District vehicle for work purposes.
Install, replace, repair, and maintain swimming pool filters, pumps, skimmers, return lines, and related equipment.
Set up, replace, repair, and manage irrigation systems and equipment, such as sprinkler heads, electric valves, time clocks, and others.
Communicate with Park District departments and staff regarding maintenance and repair needs.
Weld and solder connections, fittings, and replacement parts for plumbing repairs.
Undertake additional assignments as delegated.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
An equivalent combination of: successful completion of a four-year journey-level apprenticeship technical training program in plumbing and two years of journey-level plumbing experience, including some exposure to the installation and maintenance of irrigation and swimming pool systems and equipment.
LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- State Journey-Level Plumbing license.
- Valid Washington driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Department of Health Backflow Assembly certification.
- Acquire a valid First Aid and CPR Card within the probationary timeframe.
This role is part of the International Union of Operating Engineers.
ENVIRONMENT:
- Varied work settings, including indoor, outdoor, and shop environments.
- Utilization of a vehicle for work-related tasks.
