Role Summary

VIR Consultants Inc is on the lookout for a Lead Manufacturing Engineer to play a pivotal role in enhancing the Prismatic Manufacturing Group. This position focuses on the innovation of manufacturing processes for new products and the application of continuous improvement methodologies to existing production lines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and implement new technologies in manufacturing engineering and production processes.
  • Coordinate Design for Manufacturing initiatives across various engineering teams for both new and existing projects.
  • Establish manufacturing protocols, operation sequences, and prepare tooling and gauge lists. Develop and validate N/C programs while creating detailed operational documentation.
  • Engage in hands-on support for continuous improvement initiatives in current production processes.
  • Monitor and refine engineered time standards for setup and operational efficiency across component processes.
  • Provide accurate cost assessments for new business opportunities and process enhancements.
  • Lead evaluations and justifications for new manufacturing equipment, overseeing purchasing and implementation.
  • Collaborate daily with diverse teams, including engineers, technicians, and quality assurance personnel, to address process challenges and mentor colleagues.
  • Balance time between shop floor engagement and office responsibilities, often conducting machine program validations alongside shop staff.
  • Take on project leadership roles as assigned by management.
  • Support automated manufacturing cells, focusing on process stability to minimize labor and variability. Ownership of a dedicated manufacturing cell is expected.
  • Occasional travel may be required for project needs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, particularly with milled components.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on machining experience.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM CNC programming, with Siemens NX preferred. Strong knowledge of G&M Code programming is essential.
  • Expertise in cutting tools and workholding design, with experience in quick change and automation tooling being advantageous.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes to create efficient CNC programs for complex machined parts.
  • A proactive and innovative mindset to advance methodologies and technologies in automated manufacturing.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills for effective collaboration.
  • Ability to guide and mentor fellow manufacturing engineers.
  • Experience in developing automated and advanced manufacturing systems.
  • A commitment to Lean principles and leadership skills to foster a Lean manufacturing environment.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with familiarity in MS Project being a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in blueprint reading and GD&T.
  • Required experience in programming 5-Axis machining centers, with familiarity with specific machine platforms being beneficial.
  • Experience working with a variety of aerospace materials, including aluminum, titanium, and stainless steel.
