Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Histotechnician to join our team at Laboratory Medicine Consultants LTD. As a Histotechnician, you will play a vital role in the patient care process by preparing tissue specimens for routine H&E and special stain procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute grossing, embedding, and preparing slides for routine H&E and special stain procedures.
  • Perform technical aspects of grossing and dictating tissue specimens using laboratory materials and equipment under the direct supervision of a Pathologist.
  • Ensure specimen integrity upon arrival and throughout the entire process.
  • Create a gross description for each specimen, including anatomical site, size, color, dimensions, count, cut techniques, abnormal findings, and dissects and prepares tissue for cassettes.
  • Escalate non-routine complicated specimens to the Pathologist or lead Histotechnician.
  • Load prepared cassettes into tissue processors and start processor.
  • Perform Quality Control and Quality Assurance procedures.
  • Perform and document scheduled preventative maintenance.
  • Recognize when troubleshooting is needed for grossing, processing, embedding, cutting, staining.
  • Work in a fast-paced laboratory environment with biological and chemical hazards.
  • Champion safety, compliance, and quality control.
Requirements
  • 1 year of laboratory training or experience performing routine microtomy and grossing.
  • Associate's Degree in the field of Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory technology obtained from an accredited institution or equivalent under the 1988 Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) guidelines of high complexity testing.
  • Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent experience to sit for the exam.
  • Strong reading, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to operate general laboratory equipment, including but not limited to: processors, microscopes, manual and automated staining systems, and audible alarms.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of laboratory training or experience in a high-volume laboratory with documented special stain and immunohistochemistry experience.
  • Graduation from a school of Histotechnology accredited by CAHEA/NAACLS AND HT (ASCP) certification.
