Position Overview:
The Scheduling and Authorization Specialist plays a crucial role in managing patient appointments and ensuring proper authorization for medical services. This position involves handling incoming calls, coordinating schedules for various clinic locations, and facilitating hospital tests while ensuring all necessary authorizations are secured and accurately recorded.
Reporting Structure:
The Scheduling and Authorization Specialist reports directly to the Director of Patient Financial Services.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Review departmental schedules to secure required authorizations and document them appropriately.
2. Manage daily tasks from the ARM work list for scheduled hospital and ancillary services.
3. Verify insurance coverage and obtain pre-certifications and authorizations for inpatient, outpatient, and recurring accounts.
4. Handle all incoming calls to the call center efficiently.
5. Schedule appointments for clinical and hospital services.
6. Document all actions taken on patient accounts in the Meditech system.
7. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Education:
a. High School Diploma is preferred.
2. Work Experience:
a. A minimum of one year of experience providing clinical information to insurance companies is required.
b. Experience in a medical setting handling phone calls is essential.
c. Proficiency in scheduling appointments is necessary.
d. Experience in obtaining authorizations and referrals is required.
