Role Summary

The Lead Cost Accounting Specialist will be instrumental in overseeing and refining the cost accounting framework. This role is crucial for maintaining precise inventory documentation and product costing, evaluating cost discrepancies, and delivering analytical insights to facilitate informed strategic decisions. This position will report to the Associate Director - Controller.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a subject matter expert on cost and inventory accounting matters, adhering to established processes and protocols.
  • Review, assess, and confirm standard costs, including bills of materials.
  • Assist in forecasting and budgeting efforts by establishing standard costs and generating accurate cost forecasts, while offering valuable insights into cost predictions.
  • Examine material usage variances, purchase price variances, and inventory evaluations against forecasts to support month-end closing processes. Identify root causes of discrepancies and propose corrective measures.
  • Analyze labor and overhead variances compared to standards. Collaborate with the Accounting Manager to enhance labor reporting from payroll systems.
  • Maintain product cost master data, including BOM, routings, cost dimensions, and cost structures.
  • Conduct process evaluations to identify enhancements that improve product costing and financial reporting quality. Lead the implementation of identified improvements.
  • Investigate discrepancies in cycle counts and resolve inventory adjustments.
  • Calculate and uphold inventory reserves in line with company policies.
  • Engage in month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations related to cost accounting and inventory management.
  • Prepare necessary documentation and workpapers, primarily concerning inventory and costing, for audits and financial reporting, as well as for internal control assessments.
  • Manage additional analyses or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • Five to seven years of experience in Cost Accounting. CMA, CPA, or MBA credentials are preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of absorption costing and the analysis of variable versus fixed expenses.
  • Strong technical and financial analytical skills with the ability to communicate findings clearly and effectively.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Extensive experience with systems and ERP; familiarity with SQL and/or Sage X3 is advantageous.
  • Exceptional proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience engaging with individuals at all organizational levels.
Work Environment: Hybrid

Schedule: Full Time, Monday - Friday
