POSITION SUMMARY
The Aquatic Programs Coordinator is tasked with overseeing the daily management of aquatic activities, including water fitness and swimming instruction, while also providing training for all instructors involved in these programs. This role requires the individual to fulfill all responsibilities associated with lifeguarding and aquatic instruction as necessary. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong teamwork, organizational abilities, communication skills, customer service aptitude, and leadership qualities. The Aquatic Programs Coordinator operates under the guidance of the Aquatics Supervisor.
The Community & Recreation Center at Boyce Mayview Park offers a diverse array of recreational services, including fitness initiatives, swimming programs (both indoor and outdoor), summer camps, youth activities, programs for older adults, and much more.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, coordinate, implement, and instruct aquatic programs, water fitness classes, swimming lessons, and lifeguard training within the aquatics division.
- Oversee and maintain participant rosters and inventory for all aquatic programs, including water fitness and swimming instruction.
- Manage and track supplies necessary for aquatic programming.
- Develop strategies to enhance revenue through recreational programming that improves community quality of life.
- Collaborate effectively with visitors and township staff across various age groups and socio-economic backgrounds. Address complaints, disciplinary issues, and enforce facility regulations.
- Perform lifeguard and aquatic instructor duties as required.
- Contribute to the Leadership Team responsibilities for the facility.
- Assist in conducting monthly lifeguard training sessions.
- Organize and lead bi-monthly meetings for swim lesson and water fitness instructors.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment in all aquatic facilities.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Aquatics Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; adept problem-solving abilities to address inquiries from residents and staff.
- Ability to interact with the public in a courteous and tactful manner; proficiency in clear and fluent English.
- Capability to generate innovative program ideas.
- Skill in managing multiple tasks and programs simultaneously.
- Experience in supervising, leading, and motivating program staff.
- Availability to work during days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A combination of education and experience will be considered, including a bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, Sport Management, or a related field with 1-2 years of relevant experience, or an associate’s degree in a similar field with 3-5 years of experience, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience as a swim lesson instructor within aquatic programs at a Parks and Recreation Department, YMCA, or similar community organization is essential.
- Preferred: Swim instructor certification from a recognized organization (e.g., American Red Cross WSI) along with other aquatic professional certifications (e.g., AEA).
- Required: Lifeguard management and instructor certifications from the American Red Cross or the ability to obtain them within six months of hire.
- Must possess and maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard and First Aid Certification.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification is a plus.
- Ability to secure FBI Clearance, Child Abuse Clearance, and Criminal Clearance upon hire.
