Thermal Engineer Job Description

At SpaceX, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. As a Thermal Engineer, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the success of our spacecraft and satellite systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with a team of thermal engineers to resolve complex thermal-related issues in spacecraft and satellite systems.
  • Analyze thermal load conditions for satellite vehicle lifetime, including launch, orbit raising, and in-orbit operation.
  • Work with a multi-disciplinary engineering team to ensure all components meet temperature requirements.
  • Develop thermal solutions that meet operational and mass/cost target criteria, with development schedules.
  • Support thermal testing of components by creating test setups, writing test procedures, analyzing data, and correlating thermal models to test data.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience in space mission thermal analyses or satellite thermal architect roles.
  • 2+ years of experience with thermal analysis techniques and methods for satellite spacecraft thermal control systems.
  • 2+ years of experience in correlating model predictions and terrestrial testing to launch conditions and in-orbit performance.
  • 2+ years of experience with analysis tools.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Proficiency with Thermal Desktop.
  • Familiarity with various bus and payload design drivers and their operational limits.
  • Experience with Unigraphics NX CAD system and Matlab desirable.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Additional Requirements:
  • Able to travel to other SpaceX sites as needed.
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
