Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Impact Team Lead to join our team at Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of our facilities, while adhering to our company's Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Environmental and Health & Safety (H&S)
    • Strictly adhere to all company Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
    • Provide a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.
  • Operational Performance & Best Business Practices
    • Oversee adherence to schedules, job assignments, and activities to ensure all operational areas are kept in clean and orderly condition.
    • Verify records as needed for compliance.
    • Keep general areas of the facility clear of debris, trash, and vegetation.
    • Sweep both manually and with power equipment.
    • Regularly check and empty trash containers at the facility.
    • By direction of facilities leadership, regularly power wash and paint safety barricades, handrails, and buildings around the facility.
    • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to company property.
    • Support the overall focus of a World Class and customer-friendly facility.
    • Perform related duties and projects as directed by supervisor.
  • Equipment & Maintenance
    • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
    • Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
    • Willingness to learn and safely operate forklift and person lift to complete above tasks.
Internal Control Responsibilities

Support the Company's Internal Control process, which includes understanding, communicating, and complying with defined internal controls, as well as suggesting and making modifications to policies, procedures, and controls to better relate to the business.

Interpersonal Contacts

Direct contact with Maintenance-Facilities Supervisor, and operations production supervisors and employees. Communication via face-to-face interaction required daily.

Job Conditions

This position is regularly exposed to all weather conditions. Physical hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt are present due to the equipment, machinery, and scrap as would be found throughout the facility. Safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, face shields, and additional personal protective equipment as needed, must be worn to eliminate the risks associated with these hazards.

Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions

Ability to: lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally; crouch or bend at the knees occasionally; climbing to reach work site occasionally; stoop or bend at the waist occasionally; reach at arm's length frequently or overhead frequently; twist and turn at the neck and trunk frequently; walk frequently on uneven ground; handle and grasp supplies continually; push and pull frequently when sweeping or cleaning; communicate by speech and hearing continually. Visual acuity needed for close detail work. Mental dexterity needed as Environmental Impact Team Lead will work independently while demonstrating attention to detail and continuous awareness.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED Certification preferred. Candidates must have the ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Ability to speak and understand English as a basic level required. This position requires possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to drive an automobile.
