Job Summary

The Environmental Impact Teammate is a key member of our facilities maintenance team at Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc. This role is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and organization of our operational areas, while maintaining compliance with our company's Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Environmental and Health & Safety: Adhere to all company Health, Safety, and Environmental standards, providing a safe environment for employees, customers, and visitors.
  • Operational Performance & Best Business Practices: Maintain general areas of the facility clear of debris, trash, and vegetation, regularly check and empty trash containers, and perform power washing and painting duties as directed.
  • Equipment & Maintenance: Notify managers of the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems, requisition supplies and equipment, and safely operate forklifts and person lifts.
Internal Control Responsibilities

Support the Company's Internal Control process, including understanding, communicating, and complying with defined internal controls, and suggesting modifications to policies and procedures.

Interpersonal Contacts

Direct contact with Maintenance-Facilities Supervisor, operations production supervisors, and employees, with communication via face-to-face interaction required daily.Job Conditions

This position is regularly exposed to all weather conditions, with physical hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt present due to equipment, machinery, and scrap. Safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, face shields, and additional personal protective equipment must be worn to eliminate risks.

Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally, crouch or bend at the knees occasionally, climb to reach work sites occasionally, and perform other physical activities as required.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED Certification preferred, with the ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Ability to speak and understand English as a basic level required, with a valid driver's license and ability to drive an automobile.
