Role Context

This position is situated within the Protection and Controls Division of our organization. The selected engineer will engage in protection and control initiatives that benefit our clientele. Collaboration with internal and client engineers and designers will be essential, alongside providing training and mentorship to junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

- Engage in both new and existing Protection and Control Projects within substations.
- Configure relays and perform relay setting calculations using ASPEN, AcSELerator 5010 (SEL), and GE URPC Software.
- Prepare settings in the required format and submit to the designated Protection and Controls Supervisor via IPS.
- Review and annotate protection schematics and elementary diagrams.
- Utilize MOB Port to assess equipment and materials as determined by substation engineers for Protection Designers.

Equipment Interaction
- Work with various equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, buses, reactors, line disconnects, protective relay systems (SEL, ABB, etc.), and SCADA systems.

Project Leadership
- Act as a project lead for protection and control initiatives.
- Execute all engineering and design tasks with minimal supervision.
- Lead and coordinate the efforts of team members and external collaborators to successfully complete substation projects.
- Provide training and support to junior staff.
- Identify and implement corrective measures when project objectives are not met.
- Interpret relevant codes and regulations, developing standards for construction projects.
- Advocate for engineering professionalism and standards.
- Formulate, propose, and execute plans by establishing goals, objectives, and requirements, including scheduling and resource allocation for complex engineering tasks.

Travel Requirements
- This role necessitates 10-15% travel to field substations.

Qualifications

- 5 to 8 years of experience in utility protection and controls.
- Proven track record of managing engineering projects from inception to completion.
- Experience in relay settings and designing one-line diagrams.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited).
- A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited) will be considered as part of the experience requirement.
- A Professional Engineer (PE) License is mandatory.

Essential Skills and Abilities

- Intermediate proficiency in design calculations such as battery sizing, AC and DC loads, system component selection, and circuit protection.
- Familiarity with standards and codes including IEEE, ANSI, NERC-PRC, NEC, and NESC.
- Understanding of protection and control equipment, relays, and fault analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to comprehend the interrelationship between systems and component equipment.
- Demonstrated capability to collaborate effectively and seek assistance when necessary.
- Willingness and ability to take on leadership roles.
