Job SummaryThe Department Manager is responsible for operational and sales leadership within the plumbing department. This role ensures the highest quality of customer service is provided at all levels, from sales to project execution and continued support.
Key Responsibilities- Provide overall leadership for the department, managing goals and ensuring alignment with division and company objectives.
- Seek out and complete bid opportunities through client relationships, network opportunities, public postings, and assigned bid opportunities.
- Ensure all aspects of projects are met safely, on or under budget, and within the allotted timeframe, while supporting and directing employees on safety practices and hazard communication.
- Monitor progress towards annual goals and make adjustments to execution.
- Directly oversee staff in the assigned department, setting goals, reviewing performance, and developing staff to reach their potential.
- Provide supervision and leadership to the department, guiding employees in areas such as mentoring, coaching, individual development plans, and goal setting.
- Collaborate with the Human Resources Manager to ensure proper employee support and needs are addressed in a timely manner.
- Determine and implement opportunities for margin enhancement and manage department budget, with bottom-line responsibility for department profitability.
- Develop growth strategies for the department with the Division Manager and Branch Manager, driving expansion of sales and customer base.
- Remain aware of market competition and be prepared to react to changes.
- Aid and assist in the preparation of estimates, supporting and mentoring direct reports or other employees as needed.
- Report on WIP statistics at monthly financial meetings.
- Oversee Field Superintendents and provide guidance for field operations.
- Develop good relationships with field staff to ensure strong project communication between project managers and field project leads.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with current clients and create relationships with potential future clients.
- Promote a team atmosphere and build loyalty for IKM.
- May perform field activities and job site visits as required.
- Participate in Division/Company meetings as requested.
- Perform additional assignments as requested and maintain a teamwork attitude.
- Adhere to current policies and procedures.
- Minimum 5 years of construction management experience.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to read and understand technical specifications, construction plans, and broad understanding of mechanical systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to handle confidential information.
- Must be organized and able to prioritize tasks.
