Supervisor: Lead Airport Operations Specialist

Position Summary:
The primary role involves delivering maintenance and ancillary support services at the Grand Canyon West Airport, alongside assisting in emergency scenarios. Responsibilities encompass a variety of tasks including painting, landscaping, mowing, road repairs, operating and maintaining heavy machinery, runway upkeep, and snow clearance. The position requires interpreting operational, maintenance, and repair documentation while ensuring adherence to OSHA standards and delivering exceptional customer service. Compliance with FAA regulations and maintaining certification for Airport Rescue Firefighting services is also essential. Regular participation in training sessions is mandatory, with both required and optional certifications available through the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide suggestions to the Lead regarding enhancements for ongoing maintenance initiatives.
  2. Conduct maintenance and repairs on equipment, structures, vehicles, and runways at the Grand Canyon West Airport, which may include tasks such as painting, landscaping, mowing, road repairs, snow removal, and operating heavy machinery.
  3. Assess the condition of equipment and maintain logs of maintenance and repair activities.
  4. Interpret and implement information from maintenance and repair manuals.
  5. Understand and apply relevant policies, procedures, laws, codes, and regulations related to airport operations and emergency services.
  6. Complete training in Airport Firefighting and Rescue, participating in annual drills.
  7. Attend FAA/AAAE Basic Airport Safety and Operations Specialist School or equivalent training.
  8. Assist in emergency situations as required.
  9. Ensure maintenance equipment is kept in a clean, safe, and functional state.
  10. Properly label, dilute, and utilize chemicals, adhering to OSHA policies.
  11. Respond to visitor inquiries, providing information about the Grand Canyon West and the Hualapai culture.
  12. Perform additional work-related tasks as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Minimum of two years of general maintenance experience.
  2. Capability to perform maintenance, repair, firefighting, and rescue tasks, including operating heavy machinery.
  3. Ability to read and comprehend operating, maintenance, and repair manuals.
  4. Effective communication skills and proficiency in using various radio and communication devices.
  5. Ability to monitor and report on the condition of equipment and structures.
  6. Willingness to complete required training courses.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting while maintaining positive relationships.
  8. Capacity to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Two years of general maintenance experience.
  2. Willingness to undergo Airport Rescue Firefighting training.
  3. Completion of all required educational courses throughout employment.
  4. Strong oral communication skills.
  5. Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  6. High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience in airport operations.
  2. Relevant training or certifications (e.g., diesel mechanic, electrical, plumbing).
  3. Three or more years of general maintenance experience.
  4. OSHA Certifications.
  5. Willingness to engage in additional cross-training opportunities.

Working Conditions:
This position requires the ability to work both indoors and outdoors for extended periods, regardless of weather conditions. The role involves routine walking, standing, bending, and lifting items weighing up to 100 lbs. Candidates must be flexible with work schedules, including weekends and holidays, and be prepared to work in remote locations.
