Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute flight control specifications and algorithms for cutting-edge electric VTOL aircraft guidance, navigation, and control systems.
  • Establish requirements for aircraft sensors and state estimation algorithms, including sensor selection, monitoring, fault detection, and sensor fusion techniques.
  • Implement innovative strategies to effectively validate intricate systems and software.
  • Conduct trade studies to guide aircraft design and system architecture decisions.
  • Enhance the accuracy and functionality of our vehicle and environmental simulation models.
  • Create and validate system and software requirements along with test cases that inform the design of GNC and State Estimation software.
  • Assist in the integration and testing of the flight control system, evaluating system performance during lab integration and flight testing.
  • Analyze flight and lab test data to refine our models.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering to effectively decompose higher-level requirements.
  • Work with Systems Safety and Systems Engineering to identify and rectify any issues within the flight control system.
  • Partner with Software Engineering to ensure proper implementation and verification of flight control system algorithms.

Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of vehicle dynamics and both classical and modern control theories.
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related discipline with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with at least 8 years of experience, or a PhD with a minimum of 6 years of experience.
  • High proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with aircraft or rotorcraft performance and handling qualities requirements.
  • Experience with envelope protection systems.
  • Background in modeling physics, sensors, and actuators.
  • Experience with source selection and fault detection for redundant sensor inputs.
  • Knowledge of sensor signal processing and sensor fusion algorithms, including Kalman Filters.
  • Experience in implementing trajectory generation and/or optimization algorithms.
  • Technical understanding of various aircraft inertial sensor types, such as AHRS, INS, GNSS, and others like Air Data Systems and Radar Altimeters.
  • Familiarity with SAE ARP4754A, RTCA DO-178C, or RTCA DO-331 standards.
  • Experience in flight testing piloted and/or autonomous aircraft or rotorcraft.
  • Piloting experience (aircraft or rotorcraft) is a plus.
