About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Control Plane Engineer to join our team at Cisco Systems, Inc.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, network protocols, and distributed systems engineering.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing the control plane required for the Cisco 8000 platforms.

You will work closely with our agile team to develop and implement routing protocol stacks, network operating systems, and other related technologies.

Key qualifications include:

  • MS/BS degree in CS/EE/CE or technical equivalent
  • 7+ years' of related work experience
  • Software Development experience using C, C++, and/or Python
  • Experience developing routing protocol stacks in vendor NOS or in open-source networking stacks like FRR, Quagga
  • A deep understanding of network protocols such as BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, etc.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience and/or knowledge of Segment Routing, L2VPN and EVPN technologies, BIER and Controller based Solutions
  • Understanding of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) principles, Network Function Virtualization (NFV), and related technologies such as OpenFlow, network overlays, and virtualized network functions
  • Packet forwarding operating systems internals, algorithms, and computer architecture
  • Experience with MPLS based VPNs (MVPN, L3VPN, L2VPN)
  • GIT, Jira, Jenkins and CI/CD pipeline tools
  • Virtualization and container technologies including KVM/Qemu, Docker and/or Kubernetes
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve complex network issues, including packet capture analysis, log analysis, and protocol debugging
